System of a Down (às vezes abreviado para SOAD) é uma banda de metal armeno-americana formada em Glendale , California em 1994. É composta por SERJ TANKIAN (vocais, teclados), DARON MALAKIAN (guitarra, vocais), SHAVO ODADJIAN (baixo) e JOHN DOLMAYAN (bateria). O grupo é conhecido pelas visões políticas e sociais que inserem nas letras de suas canções.
O System of a Down usa uma grande variedade de instrumentos, incluindo guitarra barítona, mandolins elétricos, violões de doze cordas entre outros instrumentos asiáticos. Suas principais influências são as bandas mais antigas de rock alternativo, mas eles também foram influenciados pelo heavy metal,punk rock , jazz ,fusion .música folk da armenia , rock clássico,blues e rock industrial... Muitos acreditaram que a banda tinha parado....Ledo engano pelo menos por essa seguinte mensagem em seu site oficial:

Basicamente a mensagm diz que eles vão fazer alguns shows juntos, agradece a lealdade e o apoio, não só ao SOAD, mas também aos outros projetos dos integrantes (Scars on Broadway, carreira solo do Serj Tankian, etc); e diz que eles não tem nada mais planejado, só vão fazer os shows porque querem tocar juntos de novo, e pelos fãs.
É claro que a possibilidade de mais shows (talvez aqui no Brasil) e de um álbum novo existe, vamos esperar que a turnê deles corra bem e que eles continuem com a banda.
